Color Bug by Kevin Murphy Review

I purchased this back in January and I've forgotten all about it. I even forgot to include it in my monthly collective hauls but here it is! Color Bug by Kevin Murphy. I would've continued to have forgotten it until I saw it in my latest issue of Loulou. =P

If you don't already know what the Color Bug is, it is basically a shadow (like an eyeshadow) for your hair.

I've wanted the Color Bug ever since I've known about its existence but haven't really seen it anywhere (where I shop...). But I found it at a salon on Queen St. W. while perusing for furniture. I believe it's called Mosheta. I paid $20 CAD for this tiny thing weighing at only 5g.

I purchased the pink one as they were sold out of the orange one and I didn't think the purple one would be bright enough for my super black hair.

The instructions (from the packaging):
Step 1: Place a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothes from possible spillage. (It WILL happen.)
Step 2: Using the colour pad, rub onto completely dried hair where you want the colour to show. (My hair was dry but I added a moisture spray and some argan oil to the specific area before applying...)
Step 3: Massage into your hair to ensure the product is thoroughly worked through and is evenly spread.
Step 4: Work the room.

It warns you to wear gloves but I didn't because I assumed if you can wash it off your hair, you can wash it off your hands. ;) I didn't have a problem with that.

And what it really looks like on my black hair. So if you're not going to be in direct sunlight or any bright lights and have black hair, I'm assuming it's not going to look fabulously bright. =P

Kevin Murphy has a video on his website and demonstrates how he uses this product on different models with some tips and tricks. What's weird is that in his video, he said to use this product with another product so the colour sticks but in the instructions, it just says use it on dry hair... *shrugs

At first, I didn't think this product was over priced seeing as it was innovative because I haven't seen any hair shadows on the market. In hind sight, I would've spent my money somewhere else because I'm not in love with this product. If you like touching your hair throughout the day, then the colour will transfer to your hands, there's nothing to lock it in.

Also, as a side note, if you don't want to be wasting your money away but want to try colouring your hair without the commitment, Kandee Johnson on YouTube has a great video on hair chalking that I will happily link here.
